From Torremolinos to Kirkstall

It's not often you see Torremolinos and Kirkstall in the same sentence. One of us was sunning himself on the Spanish coast whilst we had someone else hiding from the wind on the Leeds Liverpool Canal. I know where I'd have rather been.

Well done to Danny Clayton on finishing the Torremolinos Half Marathon with a gun time of 92.19. An impressive 3 minutes off last year's time and quicker than this year's Brass Monkey when he had the pleasure of the two Simon's for company. Our spies in the sun tell us it's 5K downhill, 11K flat and 5K uphill to finish. Just what you need. Sadly there are no photos to evidence the Clayton running style that got Coach Whitby purring last Weds night. He's a fan of good technique is our Mr Whitby!

It was me who drew the short straw and headed off from parkrun to the 10 mile trail race at Kirkstall. A lovely affair, very much of the old school variety. 150-200 runners, £10 entry and no medals or t-shirts in sight. Instead it was a voucher for a free pint of real ale in the pub at the end. Boosted trade for the pub on a Saturday lunchtime and got us chatting to folks we'd never met before.

A race on the canal and back lead me to thinking it would be a flat affair. Alas not, a very un York like hill appeared at half way resulting in a 9min Kilometre. Back on track after that and finished in 1:28:39 and 57th place. A cracking event and cunningly set up for an 11am start so you can still sneak a parkun in.

That leaves the parkrun roundup to finish with this week, the highlight being a first place finish for one of us! Other than to say, Kit Man Si is bringing his wardrobe of stock with him to the quiz night this Fri. It's running vests only in a variety of sizes, all at £13 each. Cash only.
