Harriers supporting the community

Our very own Ian & Danielle are taking part in a charity triathlon at York Sports Village on 9th Feb. They are aiming to raise funds to support the rather marvellous pool in New Earswick.

Lots of you will be familiar with the recent history of the pool. Here it is in Danielle’s words, please support them if you can.

In 9 days’ time myself and Ian will be completing a relay 12-hour triathlon to raise money for New Earswick swimming pool.

In September 2017 the Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust (JRHT) declared their intention to close the swimming pool which has served the village of New Earswick for 50 years.

Ian spent many hours training and the pool was a huge part of his upbringing. The pool is one of the only pools in the area to offer affordable private swimming lessons for all ages.

Ian and a group of other volunteers have come together to set up a charity - Friends of New Earswick Swimming Pool (FoNESP) to try and keep the pool in operation. The JRHT from the 1stJanuary 2019 have approved for FoNESP to take on the lease of the pool. Unfortunately, the charity does not have a surplus of funds that is needed to carry out essential maintenance on the pool and building.

The challenge is a 12-hour triathlon held at York Sport involves 4 hours in the pool (I absolutely hate swimming!!!!!) 4 hours on the bike and 4 hours running.

The link to the Crowd funding page is below (its crowdfunding as the application for FoNESP to become a charity has just been submitted):
